Mujeres Divinas: Selected Works

Mujeres Divinas was created out of a desire to show the deep love and care most indigenous women have for their families and communities. In a world of chaos, there is a way to find peace within oneself, by grounding oneself and listening to the earth around us.

Mujeres Divinas is about the grace found by listening and remembering where we come from, and how it is very possible to send peace outward in a look, a smile, a gesture of goodwill, the bravery in finding our voices, and the strength found when others react and sing with us.

Mother was the first piece in the Mujeres Divinas series.. She was also the first piece I created after my Mother had passed in January 2024. This piece gave me peace, solace and comfort while creating her, and so much strength after she was completed. She also was created in honor of Roxanne Swentzell, a Santa Clara Pueblo artist and agricultural activist who works to provide natural food to those on the Pueblo, and to educate them on healthy, indigenous food choices. She is a hero/heroine of mine.
